Snitch: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's 2013 Film

Snitch is one of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's films released in 2013. An action packed film which elaborates the complex drug trafficking underworld and the average life of the citizens who usually fall as helpless victims in between. It also explores a father's unwavering love for his son who is being implicated for somebody's wrongdoing, a situation prevalent in our present day world.
By the title itself anyone could assume a storyline built on suspicion, intrigue, suspense and bloody action. With a cast of stars credited with their previous exposures in films and TV serials, the viewer is initially assured that this film should have greater substance in it than just a similar story plot made interesting by FX and familiar faces. Dwayne Johnson has been known for a lot of successful films aside from his fruitful career as a professional wrestler with countless championship crowns in his favour. Johnson with his latest reign as WWE champion in 27 January this year (2013) may have been short lived after losing the crown to John Cena later in April this same year but his film performances has outlived his wrestling career more than enough to continue to risk injuries (the match with John Cena causing a torn abdominal and adductor tendons from his pelvis) for a living. Released in February 2013, the film was directed by Ric Roman Waugh and adds up a cast of credible and veteran film artists like Susan Sarandon, Barry Pepper, Melina Kanakaredes (CSI New York), Benjamin Bratt and Jon Bernthal (whose role in the TV Serial The Walking Dead could no™t be taken for granted). The film story took its course when John Matthews'(Johnson) son Jason from his first wife Sylvie (Kanakaredes) was caught on a drug buy bust operation by the authorities led by Agent Cooper (Pepper). As it turned out, a friend has implicated Jason to receive a suspicious package containing drugs to make it appear that the latter was the actual dealer thereby reducing his own sentence after being caught. At the peak of his feeling of guilt for taking for granted his paternal role to his son upon knowing the 10 year sentence behind bars, Matthews thought about cooperating with authorities on an active anti-drug campaign by exposing the identities and source of local drug dealers. This led to the attention of District Attorney Joanne Keeghan (Sarandon) who needs media attention on her anti-drug campaign for her election to congress. Unfortunately for John, he has to risk life and limb by embarking on the drug trafficking trail himself and juggle the trust and confidence between drug dealers, authorities, his family and his own employee to achieve the freedom of his son behind bars. His trucking business and the assistance of his employee Daniel James (Bernthal) a former drug convict had been an added help that led to his introduction to the drug distribution underworld. Lots of thrills and surprises as the title implies had been in store for the viewers, the end somehow sorted it out how John saves himself at the last minute that the drug cartels realized his dual side in the story when he capsizes a trailer load of drug cartel money during a chase to be transported to Mexico in order to be seized by authorities thereby saving his son Jason out of prison. With an estimated $37 million production budget, Snitch did no™t break any charts but managed to profit well above its production cost grossing at $57,530,462 worldwide. References:
