Deadliest Catch 15hour Marathon on Saturday February 20 2010

Marathon Deadliest Catch, this weekend on Discovery Channel.

To all you Captain Phil Harris fans, there is wonderful news. The Discovery Channel is going to put on a marathon of episodes on Saturday at noon on February 20, 2010 until three in the morning on Sunday. The episodes will highlight Captain Phil and follow his journey from the king crab season of 2007 through 2008 and then continues through the opillio season when Phil returned after his first illness.

According the Entertainment Weekly, Captain Phil told the cameras to keep rolling. He did not have much voice left, as Thom Beers the executive producer told the EW people, but when he came out of the medically induced coma after his surgery, he wrote on a piece of paper to keep the cameras rolling. Phil was always a trooper and said in his note that the story had to be finished. Thom chuckled that Phil had just come out of a coma and was overriding the production of the show stating that there needed to be a great finish to the story.

Phil was always his humorous self and on his deathbed even remarked to the doctors and nurses “Don’t F--- Up” So the cameras kept rolling while Phil was in the hospital until his death on February 9, 2010. As to whether or not any or all of the footage will be shown on the next season of Deadliest Catch will be entirely up to the family.

I know I will be watching this marathon, although I have never missed an episode because of my DVR, but this is one program that I know I have watched over and over because of the suspense and just the pure guts it takes to ride on these boats, never mind the work they do with the smelly fish guts that are used for bait and the dexterity it takes just to stand up straight while the boat is rocking and rolling and having waves come over your head, then when the weather is colder during the opie season and the ice is coating everything on board.

I especially like the banter and practical jokes that the crew plays on each other and also the rivalry in the joke department between different crab vessels.  I admire the sense of humor one must have to do this kind of work and Captain Phil was no exception in the fun department.  So in honor of our dear captain, we will be watching the Discovery Channel this coming weekend and saying a little prayer for our dear friend. Captain Phil, you will truly be missed by all of your fans who have come to know and love you and wish you Godspeed.
